Eva Pilarová, Karel Vlach se svým orchestrem – The Fascinating Czech Star

For several years Eva Pilarová is the Czechoslovak jazz singer No. 1. At twenty seven she is a mature artist with an unusual range of voice which allows he to alternate soprano scat withcontraalto passages; with a sense of modern interpretation and stylistic phrazing and with a rich scale of expressive shades of voice. Originally she studied at a business college in Brno and began to cultivate singing only after graduation. She attended Janáček Academy of Music and Dramatic
Arts where she studied operatic singing for one and a half year. However, jazz and dance music had such a power of attraction that she left he studies in order to be able to go on tours with a Brno ensemble.
In 1960 she won a competition organized by the Semafor Theatre in Prague; her collaboration with this stage contributed in a short space of time to her tremendous popularity.
